Luke Deefholts

My martial arts experience began with several years spent learning Tomiki style Aikido, as I felt that I needed some form of discipline todevelop a more rounded lifestyle. But it was not enough; my teacher did not teach meditation. Iwanted to reach deeper and although I had read about meditation for years I had never adopted aformal practice. I then spent several years deeply involved in Siddha Yoga, livingin Ashrams in India and the USA.

After leaving this group I studied Shiatsu and qualified as a practitioner. Shiatsu involves working with energy; we often practised Chi Kungexercises in our classes and this in turn awakened my interest in Tai Chi.

I practised Yang style before I found Sifu Gary Wragg and Wu Family Style at Bethnal Green, in
2006. I was immediately impressed by the quality of the teaching and the feel of the Academy and
signed up for membership on the first evening. What more can I say? I’m still here many years later.

In April 2009 I became a Closed Door student of Sifu Gary Wragg, and a Wu Family disciple in aceremony with Grandmaster Wu Kwong Yu in May 2013.

I’ve participated in numerous competitionsand events at national and international level.

I am also an instructor at the Bethnal Green Academy, teaching beginners and intermediates.

One thing thatI have discovered is that there is a lot of love in Tai Chi; you can find it in the practice and in thegoodwill and support that exists among the club members and in the Wu Tai Chi family whereveryou go in the world.
