Tony Chan Cheong Lap

Chief Instructor at Tony Chan Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Learning Center (Tsuen Wan - Hong Kong)

In the past 40 odd years, I have been practising Tai Chi Chuan and Push-hand exercises with my friends. In the 1980's, I started giving lessons at my leisure time. At present, I am organizing and teaching Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan classes in Tony Chan Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Learning Center (Tsuen Wan)  (previously named: Ho Fung College), Hong Kong to friends and members of the Ho Fung College Alumni Association and Ho Fung College PTA. Lessons are held on Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm. Programs for 2003 will include Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Sword, Push-Hand exercises, and self-defense Techniques.

I started to learn Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan in 1956 from Master Wu Tai Kwei. I was much honoured to become his first disciple, and learnt much from his teachings. After Master Wu Tai Kwei passed away, I continued to receive lessons from Masters Wu Kung Cho, Wu Tai Sin and Wu Tai Chi. In order to further promote the Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan, I published a book on Push-hand exercises as a co-author in 1996 entitled "Tai Chi Push-hand Exercises Teaching Guide". From 1995 to 1997 I was a member of the HK Education Department Advisory Committee responsible for introducing Tai Chi Chuan to the Physical Education Curriculum in secondary schools in Hong Kong. This included the preparation of teaching materials, video-tapes and training of PE teachers. Since 1992, I have served as member of the Executive Committee of the H.K. Wushu Union, responsible for promoting the chinese martial art in HK and abroad. In 2001, I was the Team Leader of the HK Wushu Team to the East Asian Games in Osaka, Japan. In 2002, I was again the Team Leader of the Wushu Team to participate in the Asian Games held in Busan, Korea.
